Teddy Bear Picnic

Well, those teddy bears were naughty again this year! We opened the door to our classroom to find those cuddly friends of ours climbing the flagpole, sleeping in our story tree, playing the computer, reading books, hanging from our cupboard doors and making messes on the rug with blocks and puzzles! It looks like they had a little party of their own during their sleep over at school.

We took our bears for a walk and then enjoyed our lunch together in the KIVA with the rest of our kindergarten friends and their teddy bear friends.

A special "Thank You" to Mrs. Marge Howe for making our day fun.

Where the Teddy Bear Got His Name

The Teddy Bear

1902-2002

A hundred years ago all toy bears came to be known as Teddy Bears

The year was 1902 and President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid outdoorsman, was visiting Mississippi. During this visit several members of his presidential party captured a bear cub and tied it to a nearby tree. Upon seeing this, he ordered the bear set free.

Hearing of this noble act, a New York store owner wanted to name the toy bears in his store after the president. Thus he wrote a letter to the president asking permission to name the toy bears “Teddy”. The president gave his consent and from that day on all toy bears were called Teddy Bears.

Kindergarten Sledding Trip

What a perfect day at Parishville Park today! The snow was just right, the sun was peeking through the clouds, the children and adults were laughing and sliding! Fun was had by all.

Thank you to all who participated in our day! I am sure it will be one your child will cherish for a long time!

Happy New Year!!

Here's wishing all my students and their families a safe and happy New Year! 2011 is sure to be a great year in Room 108!

Upon leaving last week, we all enjoyed some fun games and the magical book and movie The Polar Express. I am sure you have been listening to the bell your child brought home as a momento!

We were also treated to the musical talents of some AAK students who surprised us with a small concert in the hallway outside our room!

Fun Week!

This week was full of fun! On Tuesday, Mrs. Ettinger (Caroline's mom) came it to read to the class. She and Caroline picked out some of their favorites to share. Excitement filled the room during the interactive readings by Mrs. Ettinger. Thank you for such a special time!!

We also had our annual Kindergarten Holiday Concert. The children were very excited to share their talents with Mom and Dad the very second they walked into the room on Friday! As a matter of fact, we have had to do a Concert Countdown during calendar time! They all did such a great job! And thank you to all parents who donated cookies for our get-together after the concert! I hope all the gingerbread houses made it home safely!

Graham Crackers, Frosting and Candy...Oh MY!!

I know we all had fun today making our Gingerbread Houses! The proof was ALL OVER our mouths, clothes, fingers and tables...boy, does frosting taste extra yummy at 9:00 in the morning! Our creations came out wonderful! Thank you to Mrs. Hinman and Mrs. LaMora, Mrs. Bennett and her students from AAK and to Miss Sun and Miss Jin, our visiting Korean students from SUNY Potsdam. We could never have done it without you!

Our creations will make their way home NEXT week after our Holiday Concert on Friday. I will have them bagged and ready to go for parents to carry safely home.

A special Farewell also goes to Miss Sun and Miss Jin who have spent the better part of their semester Fridays in our classroom assisting us in more ways than we can mention. They have read us stories, taught us skills one-on-one, cleaned up our messes, made us smile and consoled us when there were tears. Today, Miss Sun presented each of the students with a small token of her love for them - a magnet showing traditional Korean dress and an origami heart. Miss Jin will be joining us again in the Spring semester. We can't wait to see her again!
